TL;DR: Key Takeaways

  • Europe generated $295 million in Roblox revenue in Q1 2026, up 52% year over year, growing at nearly double the rate of the US and Canada.

  • Average bookings per DAU in Europe jumped 45% year over year to $14.33, the fastest per-user monetization growth of any region.

  • Roblox hired Joost Hagesteijn as its first-ever GM for Europe in May 2026, part of a five-person leadership expansion that included its first Chief Growth Officer.

  • Hit Roblox games are nearly identical across Germany, France, Spain, the UK, and the US. The platform is global, but the identity layer is local.

  • Max Power Gaming is hosting a UGC Gaming Mixer with Gameforge at Gamescom on August 26 in Cologne. Request an invite at maxpowergaming.co/gamescom26.

Why Roblox Is Investing in Europe Now

In May 2026, Roblox announced five new leadership hires. One of them was Joost Hagesteijn, formerly GM for Northern Europe at Snap, who became Roblox's first-ever general manager for Europe. The company announced him alongside its first Chief Growth Officer and three other regional GMs covering India, Latin America, and MENA. By making such hires, Roblox has shown these regions have gotten too big and too complicated to run from their HQ in San Mateo.

The numbers show that Europe in particular has lots of growth potential. In Q1 2026, Europe generated $295 million in revenue, up 52% year over year, according to Roblox's Q1 2026 supplemental materials. That is second only to the US and Canada at $838 million, and it is growing at a much faster than the US rate of 29%. Europe's quarterly revenue has more than doubled since Q1 2024, when it was $146 million.

The more interesting number is average bookings per daily active user. Europe hit $14.33 in Q1 2026, up 45% year over year. That is the fastest per-user monetization growth of any region Roblox reports. The US and Canada still sit far higher in absolute terms at $38.93, but that number only grew 7%. APAC, despite having the most daily users at 41 million, sits at $5.47 per user. Europe is the only region that is both large and rapidly improving how much each user spends.

There is a second reason Roblox is planting a flag in Europe: regulation is coming. UK social media legislation is already in motion and there is a reasonable chance similar rules spread across the continent. Roblox has seen what happens when a regulator loses patience. Turkey banned the platform in August 2024 and did not lift the ban until June 2026, 680 days later. The reversal required Roblox to roll out its age-based account structure and to establish a local corporate entity in Turkey. That last requirement shows that regulators increasingly want a company on the ground, not a support email address. The Hagesteijn hire is the same logic applied ahead of the problem rather than after it.

Are Popular Roblox Games Different in Europe Than in the US?

I reviewed the Roblox top game charts for Germany, France, Spain, the UK, and the US to see how different European taste really is. Based on my observations, there isn't much difference from market to market. The top trending lists are nearly interchangeable across all five countries, and the genre rankings are even more similar: trending games in Shooter, Action, Adventure, and Obby are close to identical everywhere.

Regional differences only show up in two categories. Sports splits along a football line, with the US having NFL Universe Football as a leader while Europe has winning soccer titles like Real Futbol and TOUCHLINE. The Social category splits based on language, with German Voice, MIC UP FRANCE, and Spanish Voice each charting only at home, but only in the hundreds of concurrents. Clearly the platform and top games are global. Meanwhile, players' identity layer is local. You cannot globalize which type of football someone grew up with, and you cannot globalize a voice room that runs in German.

What Emergency Hamburg Tells Us About European Developers

Then there is Emergency Hamburg, an emergency services roleplay game set in Hamburg, built by a German developer for a German-language community. It should be small the way German Voice and Spanish Voice are, but instead it's quite popular with 23.5K concurrents. It is trending not only in Germany, but also in France.

Emergency Hamburg works because the underlying loop has global pull, and Hamburg is the texture on top of it rather than the whole proposition. A French player does not need to know Hamburg to want to drive the ambulance.

For developers in Europe, that is the opening. You are not choosing between building a global hit and building something rooted in where you actually are. A studio in Cologne or Madrid is competing on the same charts, for the same players, as a studio in Los Angeles. There is no separate European market to win first, which means there is also no European ceiling.

Max Power Gaming Is Hosting a UGC Gaming Mixer at Gamescom

With so much opportunity in Europe, it's a great time for Max Power Gaming to bring the European community together.

So on Wednesday, August 26, right as the Gamescom conference kicks off, we are hosting the Max Power Gaming x Gameforge UGC Gaming Mixer in Cologne. We are expecting around 200 people, and our goal is to bring together the top developers, brands, and investors working in UGC gaming in Europe. It is a place for the community to gather and connect, and for people interested in the space to get plugged in.

It is invite only, and you can request an invite at maxpowergaming.co/gamescom26.

This is my first time attending Gamescom, but I have run events at RDC, Pocket Gamer Connects London, GDC, and in Los Angeles and New York. Here is what I have learned running these: whenever I put on a UGC gaming event, the attendees are so happy, because they are missing this type of in person connection. It can be very lonely working in this space, just at your computer and likely with remote colleagues. When we put on a UGC event, it acts as a lighthouse for everyone who is working in UGC or who wants to.

Partnering With Gameforge, Wonder Works and Accord

Partnering with Gameforge, one of the biggest Roblox companies in Europe, at a German show, in their home market, was an easy decision.

Gameforge did not start out in Roblox. They are an established German games company that recognized the opportunity on the platform and moved to build a presence there. Here's how they describe themselves:

Founded in 2003, Gameforge is a leading Western publisher and operator of MMO, browser, indie, and Roblox games. Its diverse portfolio offers engaging experiences for players around the world, from flagship MMORPGs AION Classic, Metin2, and Runes of Magic, to beloved anime MMOs Elsword and NosTale, strategy-focused browser games including OGame and Ikariam, the highly anticipated survival adventure Under a Rock, and successful Roblox experiences such as Gym Star Simulator, which has ranked among the platform's top 200 games.

I love seeing traditional gaming companies like Gameforge bringing their expertise and resources to the Roblox ecosystem because it helps the space become more professionalized more quickly.

Peter Stein, Director Business Development at Gameforge, shared his company's reason for being on Roblox and supporting this event: “Roblox has become too important for the games industry to sit on the sidelines. Through games like Gym Star Simulator, we’re bringing more than two decades of live-ops experience to the platform while staying close to the creators who know it best. That’s also how we first met Steve, one of our earliest contacts in the Roblox space. Having seen first-hand how well he brings the right people together, supporting Max Power Gaming’s Gamescom event was an easy decision for us.”

Wonder Works Studio is joining us as a partner for our mixer. They are a top Roblox developer, best known for SpongeBob Tower Defense, one of the strongest branded games on the platform, which I have written about before.

Wonder Works Studio is the award-winning Roblox studio behind SpongeBob Tower Defense, the top-earning licensed Roblox game of all time, a top-three licensed experience by visits, and winner of Roblox’s Innovation Award for Best Use of IP. The studio is now applying that proven formula across major entertainment licenses and original IP to build the next generation of breakout Roblox experiences.

I have been a longtime fan of their work and I am excited to partner with them as they expand their presence globally. Here's why their CEO Zach Letter is such a believer in Roblox: “Roblox is one of the most important platforms in gaming because it gives developers the ability to build, launch, and grow ideas for a global audience at a speed the traditional industry simply can’t match. We wanted to sponsor this event because we believe the next generation of great studios, creators, and franchises will be built on Roblox and bringing the right people together is how we help that ecosystem grow.”

Last, but not least of our amazing event partners is Accord. They help developers stay on top of what their Discord communities are actually saying. I published a blog post with them where they shared data on how players talked about brand integrations in top Roblox games, and it remains some of the more interesting community sentiment work I have seen in this space.

Accord turns Discord conversations into actionable insights for game teams across Roblox, UGC, and PC. Accord helps studios find hidden monetization and gamepass opportunities, decode the underlying causes behind ratings, and pinpoint exactly what drives player sentiment around your latest updates, items, and announcements.

Europe is where Roblox is putting its people, and the data says European users are worth more every quarter. Gameforge leaning into the platform is further proof that the opportunity is real for developers, not just players. I am glad to bring the community together in Cologne, and I hope to see many of you there in person.
