Roblox’s Top Games in August 2026: Murder Mystery 2 and Steal an Egg Take Over

Roblox's August rankings delivered something that has become increasingly rare: Brookhaven was no longer the platform's most-played experience. Murder Mystery 2 nearly doubled its audience from July and moved into first place, while Steal an Egg debuted at No. 2 after launching near the end of July. Together, the two games pushed Brookhaven into third despite its own engagement remaining relatively stable.
Their success also came through very different paths. Murder Mystery 2 used a major seasonal event to reactivate one of Roblox's largest established audiences while Steal an Egg combined several of the platform's most successful gameplay mechanics into a viral new release, then became controversial enough to influence Roblox's platform policies.
Elsewhere, Blox Fruits recorded its strongest monthly improvement of the year, while several of July's breakout games struggled to sustain their initial momentum. The result was an August top 10 shaped by both the power of major updates and the difficulty of turning a rapid launch into a lasting player habit.

Methodology: The rankings are based on the monthly average of daily concurrent-player observations collected by Rollimons during August. To qualify, a game must have at least 16 complete days of player data. This prevents late-month releases from ranking primarily on the strength of an initial launch spike and gives player activity more time to normalize.

Murder Mystery 2’s record-breaking summer comes with an asterisk
Murder Mystery 2 was August’s largest mover. The long-running social-deduction game averaged approximately 633K concurrent players, up from 341K in July. That 86% increase placed it ahead of every other Roblox game during the month and continued the momentum that began with its summer event in late July,
The event gave Murder Mystery 2 several reasons for players to return. A redesigned lobby and new Pier map refreshed the experience and received positive feedback, while daily quests, cumulative rewards, and rare event weapons created a recurring progression loop. Players only had a few weeks to collect currency and obtain exclusive items before the event ended. Murder Mystery 2 creator Nikilis reported that the update reached approximately 1.1 million players at launch, the highest the game has ever hit.
However, the same systems that encouraged players to return may also have created incentives for automated account farming. Limited-time weapons can retain value through Murder Mystery 2’s trading economy, making it potentially worthwhile to run multiple accounts that collect event currency and rewards before those items disappear.
The game’s player count fell sharply around the same period that Roblox announced broader action against bot accounts across the platform. That timing does not reveal how much of Murder Mystery 2’s audience, if any, was automated, particularly as engagement would also be expected to decline toward the end of a limited-time event. Still, the sudden change shown in the chart below suggests a possible correlation, and that its record-breaking summer may not have been driven entirely by returning players.

Steal an Egg combines Roblox’s viral theft and pet simulator formulas
August's second-largest game did not exist for most of July. Steal an Egg launched on July 25 and averaged approximately 543K concurrent players during its first full month, immediately placing it ahead of several of Roblox's most established games. According to Rollimons data, it also peaked at over 14 million concurrent players in September, trailing only Steal a Brainrot and Grow a Garden.
The game combines the theft and base-defense structure popularized by Steal a Brainrot with the egg-hatching and rarity systems of pet simulators. Players collect eggs, hatch increasingly valuable animals, upgrade their base, and steal rewards from others. Egg rarity provides a clear collection goal, while the threat of theft makes the otherwise simple loop more unpredictable. Admin events and limited updates further encourage players to return at scheduled moments.
The formula is essentially: Brainrot x Pet Simulator = A Recipe for Success
Its most distinctive feature, however, was a treadmill that let players increase their movement speed while watching a continuously scrolling feed of short-form videos (basically TikTok on Roblox), many of which appeared AI-generated. Players could interact with the clips while earning progression, effectively turning doomscrolling into a gameplay mechanic. Here’s a video of what the video feed looked like.
After criticism that the feature rewarded continuous media consumption among younger players, Roblox temporarily removed Steal an Egg and introduced platform-wide restrictions for games distributed through Roblox Kids and Select. The game returned without the feed and remained one of Roblox’s most-played games, suggesting that the video feed helped it stand out but was not the sole reason for its success. Its longer-term challenge will be sustaining that momentum once the initial novelty begins to fade.

Events and balance changes revive Blox Fruits
Blox Fruits also staged a meaningful comeback in August. The action RPG averaged approximately 314K concurrent players, up from 217K in July. Its 45% monthly increase moved it from eighth to fourth and marked a significant reversal after the game lost nearly half of its January audience during the first half of 2026.
The timing suggests that August's improvement was connected to a combination of live events and gameplay changes. The game held a limited live event on August 1, announced through its official Blox Bulletin, and followed it with a Summer PvP balance patch on August 6. The update adjusted a wide range of combat systems and was presented as the game's largest PvP balance update to date.
Rollimons data supports that explanation. Blox Fruits climbed to approximately 402K daily concurrent players on August 1, compared with roughly 279K on the final day of July. Engagement then generally remained between approximately 270K and 360K for much of the month. The rebound was therefore not the result of a single exceptional day. Events and balance changes appear to have lifted the game's underlying baseline for several weeks.

July breakout games lose momentum
August provided an immediate test of July’s conclusion that reaching Roblox’s top 10 is only the beginning. Animal Hospital, Grow a Garden 2, and +1 Speed Keyboard Escape occupied three of July’s top four positions, but all three lost significant ground the following month.
Animal Hospital experienced the sharpest month-over-month decline, falling 62% from approximately 471K average concurrent players in July to 179K in August. +1 Speed Keyboard Escape declined 37% to 222K, while Grow a Garden 2 fell 47% to approximately 247K and dropped out of the top 10. Even that monthly average obscures the severity of Grow a Garden 2’s decline: the game began August with nearly 479K players but ended the month at approximately 21K, possibly reflecting Roblox’s broader enforcement against bot accounts.
Several established games also lost ground, including Adopt Me! (-28%), 99 Nights in the Forest (-18%), and Steal a Brainrot (-9%).

August shows two paths to the top
August highlighted two very different paths to the top of Roblox’s charts. Murder Mystery 2 used a major seasonal event to reactivate an enormous established audience, while Steal an Egg combined proven Roblox formulas into a viral new release and generated enough controversy to influence the platform’s policies on reward-driven media feeds.
Blox Fruits demonstrated that established games can recover when events and gameplay changes give players compelling reasons to return. Animal Hospital, +1 Speed Keyboard Escape, and Grow a Garden 2 illustrated the other side of that cycle. Breaking into Roblox’s top 10 can happen quickly, but remaining there requires developers to convert initial novelty into a lasting player habit.
Brookhaven remains the clearest benchmark for that durability. It fell to third in August because two games surged past it, not because its own audience meaningfully declined. As September begins, the question is whether Murder Mystery 2 and Steal an Egg can turn their record-breaking momentum into the same kind of consistency.
