Roblox Top Brand Games - Then & Now

The first Roblox monthly brand rankings list I published was in October of 2022. Back then brands were interested in the platform because of the tremendous metaverse hype, which I bought into myself (before rebranding to Max Power Gaming, my company was called Metaverse Marcom).

While metaverse enthusiasm has cooled considerably, brand interest in Roblox is only growing, thanks in large part to its impressive reach with Gen Z and Gen Alpha and ongoing growth in DAUs, revenue, and creator payouts.

Although my initial monthly brand rankings list came out over two and a half years ago, there are several familiar brands that were dominating Roblox at the time: Sonic the Hedgehog, Hello Kitty and Miraculous. All three brands are still going strong, attracting millions of visits each month. These games' longevity speaks to their strong core game loops, enticing in-game rewards and consistent liveops updates, feeding players new content on a regular basis.

It's interesting looking at some of the other brands on the list. Alo Yoga and Vans are not as popular as they once were, but each has crossed 100 million lifetime visits, which is truly impressive. And both of those brands have fairly recently launched significant liveops updates to their experiences, freshening up their maps and in the process placing themselves in front of new cohorts of Roblox players.

Mattel's Hot Wheels is no longer a top game attracting high visits, but Mattel is still active on today's chart with Barbie DreamHouse Tycoon, which came out in 2023 right before the Barbie movie was released. Barbie has shown staying power on the platform, once again driven by strong game mechanics and liveops support.

Observations about Today's Popular Roblox Brand Game

SpongeBob Tower Defense

This relative newcomer continues to put up very impressive visits numbers, driven by consistent game updates and ongoing organic YouTube promotional content. It also benefits from incredibly well-established IP, which likely resonates with Roblox players from a nostalgia perspective.

Sonic Speed Simulator

The all-time leader in lifetime visits for an original branded game (Skibidi Toilet-themed Toilet Tower Defense doesn't count because it didn't start off as an official brand game) recently celebrated it's third year anniversary on the platform. Happy belated birthday, Sonic!

NFL Universe Football

As suspected, this official NFL sports game has declined in popularity over the past several months, since the American football season ended with the Super Bowl. Even though traffic has been trailing off, most brands would love to have the over 18 million visits it attracted last month.

My Hello Kitty Cafe

I've previously shared how this is my favorite Roblox game, so it's been a bit of a surprise and disappointment that it no longer pulls in 20+ million visits like it once did. It's smaller monthly totals illustrate how hard it is to keep a game going strong on the platform, no matter how good it is.

What Branded Games Perform Best on Roblox?

When I look at Roblox branded games, I typically put them into one of two buckets:

1) a real game with a game loop and clear progression

2) a marketing activation with shallow gameplay and little progression

While brands used to be able to succeed with option 2, a Roblox experience with limited gameplay, and attract millions of visits per month organically, those days are over. Part of that change is due to Roblox adjusting its free UGC policy, switching from UGC giveaways being a no-cost perk for brands to becoming a paid offering that requires significant spend. Another reason is the platform and players have changed over the years, and brands must really deliver fun in order to stand out and succeed.

So if you are a brand today that wants to attract millions or even tens of millions of visits, you need to make a kickass game with a strong game loop and excellent progression. Oh, and it helps a lot if you have strong IP that players recognize and enjoy. And liveops. Don't forget the liveops updates!

Put those ingredients together, and maybe just maybe your brand can be dominating these charts for years to come.
