When school let out this summer around the world, millions of kids didn’t hit the pool or even TikTok. They went to Roblox… to Grow a Garden.
On the surface, it’s just a super simple farming game. But this thing has exploded—20 million+ concurrent players, almost every weekend for the past month and a half.
Here's what people are saying online:
"In my family, 4 generations are playing. It’s simple enough for a 5-year-old and an 80-year-old.”— Reddit User
“I joined as a joke and now I check my crops before breakfast.”— TikTok User
Why the obsession?
Because Grow a Garden nails the chill summer vibe:
🌱 Low effort, high reward — grow crops and cash in with zero pressure
🛌 Offline progression — plant, walk away, return to a jackpot
🥭 Mutated mangoes and oversized fruit — dopamine with every harvest
🎁 Free pets, rare seeds, live admin events — fresh content every week, including with celebrity guests
My Personal Experience
At first, my kids only dabbled in Grow a Garden. They thought it was too boring.
But this summer, they started spending more time with friends who were hooked—and suddenly, they were all in. The trading. The upgrades. The flexing over who had the most insane fruit.
I’d see the three of my kids (ages 8, 13, and 14) huddled together in the same room around their iPads, comparing gardens and laughing. It didn't hurt that they got a +20% friend boost in-game for playing together, which made it feel like a team activity.
And as a parent who’s already logged way too many hours playing the game myself, it was incredibly fun to step in and play with them. I’d gift them rare crops—stuff they could trade for big paydays—and watch their eyes light up as they suddenly unlocked rarer seeds or hatched powerful pets. I didn't mind hearing, "Thanks, Dad!" over and over again following each gift I gave them.
Isn’t that what every parent wants? To help your kids go farther than you ever did?
Turns out… my way to give my kids a leg up in life was via Grow a Garden.
